چکیده

The bias-field-dependent dielectricity of ferroelectric thin films is studied by use of a multilayer model capable of modeling saturated and unsaturated hysteresis behavior under arbitrary fields. The simulated minor hysteresis loops at different bias fields are used to calculate the variation of dielectric permittivity with the bias field. The -E loops show asymmetric shifting along the field axis when the film is assumed to possess a secondary dielectric layer with trapped charge. Simulated D-E and -E loops are compared with the experimental data on barium zirconate titanate and lead zirconate titanate thin films. In general, the model predictions show reasonably good agreement with experiment. Effects of charge density and the ac measurement field amplitude on the measured permittivity, as well as the dielectric tunability have also been examined. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. Dielectric properties of ferroelectric thin films with surface transition layers.

By taking into account surface transition layers (STL), the dielectric properties of ferroelectric thin films described by the transverse Ising model are discussed in the framework of the mean field approximation. Functions of the intra-layer and inter-layer couplings are introduced to characterize STL, which makes the model more realistic compared to previous treatment of surface layers using ...

Ferroelectric Thin Films for Tunable Microwave Applications

Modern wireless communication systems are based on microwave technologies. Ferroelectric devices with the electric field dependent dielectric properties and low dielectric losses at microwave frequencies are very promising. Capacitance tunability nc, defined as the ratio of the capacitance at zero applied bias voltage to the capacitance at some desired applied voltage, is the key functional pro...

Phase-Field Modeling of Domain Structure Energetics and Evolution in Ferroelectric Thin Films

A computational model developed based on the phase-field approach is used to model domain structures in ferroelectric thin films and to quantify the effects of strain and applied electric field on the microstructural evolution, and on the induced dielectric, electrostrictive, and piezoelectric film properties. Theoretically predicted vortex-like polydomain and experimentally observed bidomain a...

Direct current field adjustable ferroelectric behaviour in (Pb, Nb)(Zr, Sn, Ti)O3 antiferroelectric thin films

Abstract (Pb,Nb)(Zr,Sn,Ti)O3 antiferroelectric (AFE) thin films have been fabricated on LaNiO3/Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si wafers using a sol–gel process. The electric field-induced antiferroelectric-to-ferroelectric (AFE–FE) phase transformation behaviour and its dependence on the temperature were examined by investigating the dielectric constant and dielectric loss versus temperature and electrical field. ...
